Vigil to commemorate the original Nakba of 1948
As Israel plunges the Palestinians into a second Nakba, we will commemorate the original Nakba - the Catastrophe - of 1948, when Israel killed over 15,000 people, perpetrated over 70 massacres and occupied over three quarters of Palestine, with half of the Palestinian population made refugees.
The Nakba was a massive campaign of ethnic cleansing followed by the destruction of hundreds of villages, to prevent the return of the refugees, similar to what is being wrought now in Gaza.
The Nakba lies at the heart of seventy-six years of injustice for the Palestinians.
We will not forget 1948, and we will not forget the genocide now under way.
