Policy & Campaign Launch
Boycott, Divestment & Sanctions (BDS)
Sydney, NSW
The Palestine Israel Ecumenical Network (PIEN) publicly announces our Boycott, Divestments and Sanctions (BDS) policy and campaign.
PIEN has heard the calls of our brothers and sisters in Palestine and Israel who are actively working for justice and peace, including those voiced in the 2009 Kairos Palestine document, the 2017 statement from the National Coalition of Christian Organisations in Palestine and particularly the call from the Palestinian BDS National Committee.
As such PIEN is compelled to respond by adopting BDS as a non-violent action against companies and other entities which, directly or indirectly, support Israel’s occupation of Palestinian land and its blockade of the Gaza Strip, in violation of international law. BDS was successfully used against supporters of Apartheid in South Africa. Israel, especially having adopted a new Basic Law proclaiming Israel as The Nation State of the Jewish People, along with its military rule of the Palestinian territories, fits the description of an apartheid state, as defined by the International Criminal Court.
To implement our BDS policy we have decided to invite you, our members and supporters, to boycott the products of Hewlett Packard (HP), due to HP’s direct links, over many years, with the Israeli occupation. By equipping Israel with sophisticated computer-based technology and related infrastructure, HP helps maintain Israel’s deliberate policies of apartheid and oppression. Click here for more information on HP’s involvement. Information about how you can engage with this campaign will be available on our website immediately following the launch.
We encourage you to come along to the launch, spread the word and engage with us so together we can raise awareness about the situation in Palestine and Israel and put pressure on the Israeli Government to end the occupation and the blockade and adhere to international law.
If you would like more information prior to the launch please email – contact@pien.org.au
Thank you in anticipation of your involvement!
