Palestinians to raise refugee ‘Right of Return’ at first UN racism review
"The Palestinian Authority is expected to raise the issue of the “right of return” for Palestinian refugees at its first United Nations racism review in Geneva next month. The PA’s human rights record will be reviewed for the first time by the UN Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination (CERD), which will also look at discrimination issues in the Czech Republic, El Salvador, Iceland, Mexico, Mongolia and Poland."
UN official devises blueprint for Israeli accountability
"In the past, his conclusions have been heavily criticised by the United States and Israel. Lynk's recommendations are not legally-binding. While his requests may seem overly ambitious, Palestinian activists could well see them as a useful alternative to a formal peace process that has largely ground to a halt. Israel's mission to the UN did not immediately respond to Al Jazeera’s request for comment."
Solar, wind projects to help power West Bank
"The energy produced is to be used for water projects including water treatment stations, thereby reducing the costs that the PA pays to import electricity from Israel. Shadi Othman, the spokesman for the EU Commission in Jerusalem, told Al-Monitor that the project will cost a total of $20.3 million, of which $9 million have been provided by the European Union and $11.3 million by the French Development Agency."
Remembering the 2014 Israeli Offensive against Gaza
"Israeli historian Ilan Pappé has said that the motivation for the kidnapping was the murder of two Palestinian teenagers by Israeli forces in May 2014; the autopsy report which showed that the teens were killed by Israeli soldiers’ live fire had been made public the day before the kidnapping. In the aftermath of the abduction, Israel launched a crackdown on alleged Hamas associates in the West Bank."
African nations call on world to end Israeli occupation of Palestine
"The group also called on Israel to end it's construction of illegal settlements, and the imprisonment of thousands of Palestinians and other collective punishment measures against the Palestinian people. Representing 28% of all UN members, the African Group reminded the UNHRC of it's obligation to act immediately to ensure that the Palestinian people are able to realise their right to self-determination, justice and freedom."
