Event by Teachers and School Staff for Palestine, South Australia
Vigil for Scholasticide in Palestine
On Thursday 28 November, on the eve of International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People, South Australian educators, teachers, academics, university staff, researchers, school staff, students, education affiliates, and the broader community including families will gather to attend the Vigil for Scholasticide in Palestine.
The vigil is held in honour and in remembrance of all fallen students and school and university staff in Palestine. The vigil is held in acknowledgment of the devastation and destruction caused by Israel’s genocidal and illegal settler colonial project, and particularly the deliberate targeting of all civic infrastructure, including the Palestinian education system. In the past 13 months, Israel has systematically targeted students, teachers and academics in Palestine and destroyed schools, universities, libraries, museums, archives and other places of research, teaching, and learning.
The event in South Australia is inspired by our colleagues in Victoria who have called for vigils to be held across Australia and, organised by a group of people who represent the diverse education sector in South Australia, including members from Teachers and School Staff for Palestine SA, Academics for Palestine SA, Women in Black Adelaide, Unionists for Palestine SA and Students for Palestine Adelaide.
