Breaking the Gaza Blockade: Chris Graham on the Freedom Flotilla

Sydney, NSW

Sydney Staff for BDS invites you to a public talk by Walkley Award-winning journalist and current New Matilda editor Chris Graham, recently returned from the Gaza Freedom Flotilla.

Since 2007, an Israeli blockade has denied the Palestinians of Gaza crucial resources, rendering the territory potentially “unlivable" by 2020, according to a 2017 UN report. In an effort to break this stranglehold, the Freedom Flotilla set sail for Gaza in May, with a cargo of medical and humanitarian supplies, and an international crew of solidarity activists. Australian journalist Chris Graham joined the final leg of the voyage in July, from Sicily to Gaza. In response, the Israeli Navy hijacked the flotilla in international waters and detained everyone on board. Chris and his fellow crew-members were subsequently jailed briefly then expelled from Israel, while the medical supplies intended for the long-suffering Palestinian population of Gaza remain in Israeli hands.

Come to this lunchtime meeting to hear Chris's first-hand account of the Freedom Flotilla and the humanitarian crisis facing Gaza, and discuss what we can do about it.
