Adelaide solidarity with Palestine Vigil

Date/time: Wednesday, 13 December 2017, 6:00pm

Venue: SA Parliament House, North Terrace, Adelaide

Last Wednesday, 6 December 2017, the US President Donald Trump announced the United States will recognise Jerusalem as Israel's capital and has announced plans to relocate the US Embassy to Jerusalem.

This decision, which contravenes international law (UNSC 478, 1980; UNSC 476, 1980), amounts to an approval of the illegal Israeli annexation of East Jerusalem and the denial of the Palestinian rights over Jerusalem.

"Israel illegally creates realities on the ground and now the US is approving it,” said AFOPA Executive member Bassam Dally. “Palestinians have been negotiating in good faith for 25 years, during which time Israel has continued to build illegal settlements and Jewish-only roads. Israel has surrounded Eat Jerusalem with illegal Jewish-only settlements and denied Palestinians the rights to build in their own land”, he added. “Jerusalem is holy for all three monotheistic religions and not just for Jews. Jerusalem needs to be an international, shared city of peace for all."

Australians call on the Australian Government to condemn this unilateral move by the US Government against the norms of the international rule of law and against a just peace for the Palestinian and Israeli peoples. This path leads to more unnecessary violence and bloodshed; this path does not lead to a just peace.

Join us to add South Australians' voices to the national call for an end to the Israeli occupation of Palestine, respect for international law and for respecting the sanctity of Jerusalem as a peaceful city for Palestinians and Israelis.

Come and show your solidarity and send a peace message from Adelaide.
