Australian Opinion Polls on Palestine

The Australian Friends of Palestine Association, in co-operation with other Australian advocacy groups, has commissioned social research on Australian attitudes to Palestine and Israel.

Public opinion polls have been conducted in 2009, 2011, 2014 and 2017 by Roy Morgan Research. The most recent public opinion poll was conducted in 2022 by YouGov.

 2022 Opinion Poll

The Australian government is at odds with the bulk of the Australian public, according to the poll. The poll found that a majority of people:

  • believe that Palestine should be recognised as an independent State

  • oppose the Australian government’s approach in relation to the Occupied Palestinian Territories

  • oppose the continued occupation and the siege of Gaza, and

  • oppose the illegal Israeli settlements on occupied Palestinian land.

The poll shows that these opinions cross political affiliations, with a majority of voters - Labor (62%), Coalition (54%) and Greens (79%) - believing the Australian government should call on Israel to end its apartheid regime.
