Protest the Israel – Premier Tech cycling team at Adelaide's Tour Down Under 2025
RALLY, plus…
JANUARY 18
AFOPA invites you to take part in 3 important actions planned for the Tour Down Under 2025 to protest the presence of an Israeli branded team, Israel-Premier Tech.
Other groups are also planning events. For details about those, check in here or check our social media.
PROTEST 1: Protest the Raising of the Israeli flag
If the Israeli flag is raised at the TDU Village, AFOPA will arrange a lightning protest at Tarntanyangga/Victoria Square with a march down King William Road and through Rundle Mall
Date and time TBA
PROTEST 2: Protest the first TDU Men’s Race - Saturday 18 January 2025
Meet at Hindmarsh Square for start of rally at 5.30 pm
March with banners, flags etc along Grenfell Street to circuit (East Tce)
Rundle Road is start point and finish point. This circuit starts at 7pm and goes until 8pm.
On reaching the circuit from the rally protesters will scatter to various locations around the track, remembering to adhere to legal requirements for large public events
Protesters never go solo - always have at least two people at any position (this provides some security/protection and a witness with phone camera if required)
AFOPA has been advised by SAPOL that severe penalties apply under the South Australian Major Events Act 2013 for obstructing or interfering with the conduct of the major event or the reasonable enjoyment of a member of the public present at the event. The TDU is classified as a major event. Therefore, we will:
Stand back from the fence so that flags and placards do not stray over the fence putting cyclists at risk.
Not interfere with the public’s enjoyment of the event by blocking their view or by chanting.
PROTEST 3: BDS Group & Friends - Victor Harbor 24 January 2025
AFOPA’s BDS (Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions) group will organise a smaller protest at the end of the Glenelg to Victor Harbor circuit on Friday 24 January
This race finishes at 3.10pm on the Esplanade, Victor Harbor
