The launch of this book at a time when Zionist Israel has stepped up its genocide of the Palestinians is very welcome.
Apart from giving readers an insight into how progressive Jews contributed to movements for social justice and equality in many countries, it also shows that not all Jews approve of Zionism and what Zionist Israel has been doing to the Palestinians since the end of WW2. This also counters the argument by Zionist Jews and their supporters that those who criticise Israel’s brutal actions against Palestinians are being antisemitic.
Comments on the book:
This timely book is an excellent antidote to any attempt to de-historicise conflicts such as the one raging in historical Palestine. Pre-Zionist Jewish life and culture invalidates the absurd attempt to equate Zionism with Judaism and anti-Zionism with antisemitism. Ilan Pappé, Israeli historian
Nowhere else will you find a coherent account of the Jewish socialist tradition’s currents in eastern Europe, London, and New York. The tradition is counterposed to the Zionist fable that Jews can achieve security through militarism and colonisation. Rick Kuhn, ANU
