Students for Justice in Palestine, University of Queensland
Annual General Meeting & Fundraiser for Ashtar Theatre
Brisbane, QLD
The Students for Justice in Palestine Society UQ will be holding its Annual General Meeting + a Fundraiser for ASHTAR Theatre on 18 October. This combined event will take place from 6pm-8pm. The event will be at the University of Queensland, Building 50-N202.
Members of the public are encouraged to attend both events, however only SJP members may vote in the election itself. We anticipate that election process will take no more than 30 minutes.
ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING
The Annual General Meeting is when we, as a student society, hold elections and select a new management team. As most of our founding team is graduating, we are looking for passionate activists to continue advancing the cause for Palestine on campus. We really think there is so much potential and space for action. All positions are open. Certain positions are restricted to UQ students only, and others are open to all.

FUNDRAISER FOR ASHTAR THEATRE
The Fundraiser for ASHTAR Theatre will include reading an excerpt from ‘The Gaza Monologues’, edited by ASHTAR Theatre. The play is a collection of interviews from youth in Gaza as they tell their personal stories about war and siege. Aleea Monsour, a Brisbane-based theatre director and producer who recently completed a three-month internship with ASHTAR Theatre in Ramallah, will speak about her experiences working with ASHTAR and her experience of living in occupied Palestine.
ASHTAR is a dynamic local Palestinian Theatre with a truly progressive global perspective. They aim to promote creativity and commitment for change through a novel combination of specific training and acting programs and services and professional theatre performances. Other than working in our two main locations in Ramallah and Gaza (which was recently destroyed in bombing), ASHTAR Theatre has also trained groups in Jerusalem, Nablus, Hebron, Bethlehem and the Jordan Valley.
